Where Does Creative Fire Come From?

“Most people see what is, and never see what can be.” -   Albert Einstein I had a client tell me the other day that she doesn’t feel like she is herself. Have you ever felt that way? This woman has felt that way as long as she can remember. When we can’t be our authentic selves, is it even possible to know and embody our creative passions? This woman is a fun and adventurous person. If you met her you would think she was a happy, fun, outgoing person. Yet she doesn’t think she is anymore.  She doesn’t feel authentic.  Which also means she doesn’t feel passionate or creative. In our work together, we decided to take a look at her family history to see where this feeling came from. My client’s grandmother was one of sixteen children. Her grandmother was one of the oldest and therefore helped her mother take care of the children. She had always wanted to be a nurse, and never became one. My client’s grandmother got married and

Fueling the Creative Fire

“There are always flowers for those who want to see them.”                                                                                             - Henri Matisse When we finally get to the root of our issues, there is one main issue that all others connect to like the spokes in a wheel.  This core issue colors everything about us.   Throughout our lives, we keep learning about this core issue in different ways and through different lessons. My core issue has to do with feeling like I am not enough and that I am not valued.  I think this core issue had something to do with my career choice and most everything I have chosen in life until I became aware of it and how it was affecting me. When we become aware of our core issues and work with them in a positive light, we open ourselves to being our passionate selves and fueling our creative fire.  If we are blind to our core issues behind many of our thoughts and actions, we diminish our life force and th

The Courage to Create a New Life

“Life is the highest art.” -   Anonymous The Power of Creativity isn’t just limited to creating works of art.  I’ve heard it said that life is the highest art and some of the most passionate people I know create from a place courage and necessity.    I have a client who had a major stroke two years ago.   He is a man who values his strength and always took his physicality and sports abilities for granted.  His great love is golf.  His stroke was sudden and debilitating.  His whole life changed. What came easily to him no longer does.  To regain his physical awareness he needs to find and make new pathways in his brain.  His left side is the side that is affected.  Holding a golf club – what he once took for granted – is now a wonderful feat of accomplishment. Slowly, he is establishing new pathways and is able to do more and more.  He can walk with a cane; slowly.  He can brush his teeth, and can mostly dress himself; all accomplishments.  He is a proud man w

The Power of Creativity: The Sixth Body Presencing™ Key

“You can’t use up creativity; the more you use, the more you have.”                                                                                          - Maya Angelou What is creativity, where does it come from, and how can we channel it in creating a life of health, wholeness, and vitality?  This month we will explore The Power of Creativity as the sixth of the Twelve Body Presencing™ Keys. When I was little I saw a movie on a Sunday afternoon which showed a ballet class in Austria. I had never heard of ballet before, and I was awestruck. I remember running down the steps and finding my mother in the kitchen and telling her that I want to take ballet lessons. That was the beginning of my passion for dance which would last the next twenty years.  Dance became almost everything to me; I ate and drank dance. Where did that creative fire come from? It came from somewhere deep in my soul.  The more I danced the more I began to gain control over my
