The Call of the Tamed

“Men have forgotten this truth, said the fox. But you must not forget it. You become responsible forever for what you have tamed.” -           Antoine du Saint Exupery A couple of weeks ago, I was walking on a park trail with my dogs on their leashes. When no one was around I took Sampson, my adorable puppy, off his leash and let him run.   This was invigorating for us all. Even my old beautiful and slower moving dog, Snowball, came more alive; though she happily stayed walking with me on her leash something about Sampson’s freedom called to her wild nature. We were having a blast and frolicking in the park when I saw a woman walking her dog and realized she was coming directly towards us.   Knowing my dogs love other dogs and would automatically run up and play with this dog, I thought we were in for a good time.   As fellow dog lovers we could let the dogs sniff and play and just be dogs; their authentic selves.   But the woman blindly walked past us; and he

The Call of the Wild

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson What is it about some people that is so compelling that we can’t take our eyes off them?  Is it beauty?  Is it artistry? Is it something more or something indefinable? Whatever it is, we all know when we are in the presence of someone who is truly authentic. How do we know when someone or something is authentic and why should we care? We’ll spend the entire month of April exploring the various answers to these questions because Authenticity is our fourth Body Presencing Key to unlocking the secrets of health, happiness, and vitality. I was out walking my dogs the other day in the snow and ice. It was so beautiful outside; pristine and quiet. No other people (or animal people) were around. The snow was crunchy and hard from the ice that covered it. Everything was covered with a shiny glaze.  Sampson, my eager a

We Are What We Think

“Remember there is value in “waking up” – even if pain is the trigger. Such experiences invite more openness and spaciousness than ever before—even as our certainties continue falling away. It is simply that when we are open, the painful experiences in our lives can become windows revealing the larger Truth that lies Beyond.” -Unknown Author I woke up the other morning knowing that I was thinking things and that I kept repeating the same thoughts over and over again in a half sleep state.  Has that ever happened to you?  If so, have you taken the time to wonder what those thoughts were that surrounded you?  I kept trying to remember those thoughts, but they were gone to me … consciously anyway. This is important to living a passionate life because those thoughts shape who I am, my beliefs, and how I look at the world.  My repeated thoughts create the conditions of both wholeness and vitality as well as depression and disease within my own body. When I am aw

The Power of Forgiveness

“Forgiveness is giving up the wish that things could be different.” -   Valerie Harper If you haven’t figured it out by now, each of our monthly Body Presencing Keys build upon one another.  We began the year with January’s theme of Choice. February introduced the power of Acceptance. Drum roll … March’s Body Presencing Key is Forgiveness.  Forgiveness is a word that gets tossed around; sometimes almost carelessly.  Yet it is central to living a life of wholeness, health, and vitality. But what exactly is forgiveness; and sometimes more importantly what is it not? I believe there are appropriate times and reasons to forgive and there are times when it isn’t appropriate.  When it is applied in a way that makes us more whole and alive then we are on the right track.  When is it used in a way that creates confusion, anger, or depression we are definitely headed somewhere we don’t’ want to go. I work with a lot of clients who say things like,” I for
