Fire Element: The Right to Life (Astrology Blog)

I find the element of fire in the eyes of many people studying astrology can be misunderstood. When people who have a little knowledge of astrology hear that someone is a Leo or an Aries sun sign, or who have more than two planets in a fire sign think they know you in some way. Being someone with a sun in Leo and a moon in Aries, I frequently hear things they may think they know about me and they see that aspect through a narrow lens. I listen to stuff like, “oh, wow, watch out for you,” or things like that. It is easy to look at the astrological signs and their houses literally. There is nothing wrong with that. It just doesn’t take into account a myriad of dynamics at play in a person. Hearing that I have five planets in the 5th house in the sign of Leo, people often think I have a big ego, or a significant need to be heard and seen so that I can be loud and even obnoxious maybe even that I like to have things revolve around me. The truth is we all have some of those aspects within us. The bigger truth lies in seeing more deeply into why the person has so much fire. What does it give them and what do they need it for, and how much did they have to fight for their very lives?
The fire element is a life giver. It is about being alive and about having the strength to overcome life’s difficulties. Life can be challenging at best. What are our reactions when we don’t get the job we wanted, or when a person we love breaks up with us, or when we have parents who need us to be a certain way? The element of fire helps us to deal with hurt, to continue our dreams to deal with loss; it is the strength to carry on. Being able to persevere, having a high vitality, inspiring others, having the courage to create are all essential things. Every element has many gifts as well as pitfalls or shadows. That isn’t to say that a person with many planets in fire signs like a sun in Sagittarius, a moon in Aries, and a rising in Leo can’t be obnoxious, and may have trouble knowing when to be quiet and listen. But it also can mean that person needed the vitality and drive to do what they came here to do in this life.
I like to look at a person through the lens of there is a reason for this person to have these attributes and challenges. They came into this life and experienced certain wounding as well as gifts. How do these astrological symbols describe the story of their lives and what they needed to not only survive but to make the best of their lives and to be able to live what is possible? With fire in the firehouses, the first, fifth and ninth houses, as well as the three signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius, and the rulers of those three signs, Mars, the Sun, and Jupiter, we can see how all of us are influenced by that element. We all need to learn about our life force and vitality, how to deal with anger, how to work with our strengths, and so on.
Sometimes when we have had to depress or repress our fire, maybe through a family that didn’t and couldn’t appreciate our anger or level of activity or understand our need for creative outlets or our need to be heard, we learned to thwart our selves through frustration and disappointment. If we can’t express our anger, we then take our life force away from us, and we become depressed. Or on the other hand, it can also work out where when our fire gets dampened we get very reactive and angry, and then the anger hangs on and gets exaggerated. That kind of anger is no fun to be around. Fire knows that we have the right to take up space and the right to be ourselves.
Where and how these aspects show up for you is depicted in your very birth chart.
