Poem: Fall Promises πŸπŸ‚

Image
Fall Promises It was an unusually warm fall. Summers’ days lingered quietly protesting Fall's progress. Trees stayed leafy green, with just a topping of Fall’s colors making a muted display. Only the birds knew it was fall. Where are the birds, are they silently tucked away for the coming winter? I sit patiently waiting for the bird’s morning calls as I stand on my back porch. I sit listening and watching for the bird’s calls by my morning window shrouded by trees. I watch as an occasional bird makes its more subdued presence known, flying by. Winter is coming, they are saying as they make their winter nests. Squirrels flit by, playing and mating and searching and digging and climbing. I look upwards and see a squirrel in his nest high upon a tree. Cooler breezes suddenly pop in bringing a refreshing change to the malingering heat. Fall’s promises are coming at last. The bird’s know what time it is; the birds know.

There Is A Season

Image
Fall is fast approaching and with that comes much-needed relief from the heat of the summer as well as the anticipation of the beautiful fall colors permeating our natural world. Orange, red, yellow, and brown will soon color our lives with vibrancy. I think of crisp fall apples, bright orange pumpkins, cooler breezes, and yellow and red leaves waving in the wind. As long as I have been a practicing Chiropractic physician I have flown solo. There is a season for everything, and I have found a lovely young woman who will be working in my office. You might see her around. Her name is Dr. Nikki Nienhaus. She is sharing my office and building her own practice. At the same time she is available to see you in times where I am too busy to see you in a timely fashion, and of course, when I am on vacation, so as you might need more continued care, your care doesn’t have to be interrupted. She has her own unique style of working, knows a lot about nutrition and nutritional testing for

In the Meantime: Significant Gaps

Image
When I was growing up, I was very close to my cousin. We are one year apart in age and he and his sister, my other cousin lived in Chicago, and we lived in St. Louis. I thought he was amusing, he still is, and I enjoyed his company immensely. One of the fun things we liked to do together was to play ping pong. My parents had a ping pong table in our basement, and he and I would go down to play for long periods of time. Sometimes we would start playing a different kind of game where we would hit the ball back and forth over the net and see how many times we could hit the ball without missing. I remember we would get on a roll and couldn’t miss so we would turn in circles and hit the ball and still keep on going. Now we didn’t spike the ball; we were hitting it back and forth fairly easily. Once we hit the ball over two thousand times before one of us missed. That was the silly kinds of things we would do together. His sister and I didn’t get along as well, and in fact, she had t

Poem: And The Sun Still Shines

Image
Poem: And The Sun Still Shines I woke up this morning, and the sun was still rising in the sky And my dog was still licking my toes and shaking her ears And the birds were still nipping about on my deck looking for remnants of seed And the insects were buzzing about And my friend the spider was still by my front door weaving his web And the squirrels were still scurrying and jumping from tree branch to tree branch And the sun was still rising and shining down on us sending us light throughout our day And yet there are lies and deceit and war and anger and rage and fear and hatred and inequality and poverty and ignorance and denial and greed; in our world and in us And the sun was still shining  Reminding us of our moral compass Reminding us that life goes on Showing us the way and the way to our hearts Guiding us and inviting us to live And the sun shines on… My soothing words of wisdom for the week is about when you say, "I have to let

In the Meantime: Periods of Time

Image
I was speaking with a friend who was talking about a dynamic she experiences periodically that I had not previously thought about in regards to the in the meantime phenomenon. This is in regards to a time period experience. We were talking about busy time periods and then empty time periods. This particular person can dread busy time periods, yet she also feels a sense of accomplishment during them. When they are over and the following period ensues where it is a relatively fallow time, she feels one of lost and down and sensitive. Then she feels like she can't wait until things get busier again. I was thinking about this and realized this also describes one of those times when we are in the middle of a type of waiting mode... waiting until the next busy period resumes. What a fertile time to explore the feelings that come up along with feeling lost. It makes me think of a time of exploring our identity. Are we what we do, are we who we are, and who are we without doing? It be

The Language of Astrology - Going to Paris

Image
I just recently returned from a four-day immersion into Astrology where all we spoke was the language of Astrology. It was a lot like going to a foreign country, and you were only allowed to speak the native language. It was a jump start in the understanding of the language. The effect was all at once exhilarating and intimidating.  Learning Astrology is a lifetime's venture and adventure. Not only is it a way of understanding your self and your inheritances, but it is also a way of looking at a blueprint of your life, your health, and your possible events and learning opportunities in your life. If you so choose, it is also a way of seeing and understanding your inherent weaknesses, your early wounds, and your wounded healer. Let's take this out of the philosophical and make it more real. All of us are born with a set of experiences through our caretakers, early events, and traumas which mark us and shape our view of the world. Through the symbols of planets like Plu

In the Meantime: Behind the Scenes

Image
I love going to sleep at night as much because I am tired and look forward to my rest as well as the fact that I love dreams and dreaming. I look forward to my dreams. I experience them as my other life. They can be just as vibrant and alive as my waking life. Many of the dreams I don't remember, but I do remember my feelings I experience in the morning when I wake up. As I was listening to a patient talk the other day, I realized that dreams are also an example of  In the Meantime . This patient was describing a dream she had had the other night. For this purpose, the content of the dream itself isn't as important as what is occurring behind the scenes.  As I was listening to her describe her dream, I was also hearing how the dream itself described the inner process of her unconscious. Her unconscious was aware of an understanding deepening within her that her conscious self was not. She did not know the growth that was happening in her and instead thought the dream was
